Costless Loyalty 5+1 vs SmartCafe: which loyalty program fits your restaurant?

Verdict in one line: SmartCafe if you need full restaurant automation (Syrve POS, kitchen, inventory, delivery) and you're prepared to discuss pricing on a phone call. Costless if you want loyalty only with no Syrve commitment, published pricing and a free tier to start. SmartCafe ships Smart Wallet (Apple/Google Wallet) — that is a real advantage Costless deliberately does not offer.

1What is SmartCafe loyalty?

SmartCafe is a Ukrainian integrator of the Syrve platform (formerly iiko before its 2022 rebrand). Their loyalty offering is a module inside the larger restaurant- and HoReCa-automation stack — not a standalone product. If you already run Syrve at the POS, the loyalty module simply switches on. If not, you have to deploy Syrve first.

Mechanic types SmartCafe offers

  • Bonus accumulation — customer earns bonus points, redeems against the menu.
  • Discount tiers — customer moves between discount bands based on spend.
  • Subscription cards — prepaid bundles (e.g., "10 coffees for the price of 8").
  • Personalised offers — based on Syrve's guest segmentation.
  • SMS marketing — built into the platform.

Smart Wallet — customer carries the card in Apple/Google Wallet

SmartCafe ships a dedicated Smart Wallet module that issues the customer card as an Apple Wallet (.pkpass) or Google Wallet pass. This is a genuine technical advantage: the customer adds the card to a familiar phone wallet, gets push-style reminders when near a venue, and sees their bonus balance natively. Costless deliberately does not offer this — the reasoning is in section 7 below.

2What is Costless Loyalty 5+1?

Costless Loyalty 5+1 is a standalone digital stamp-card SaaS that lives in the customer's browser. No app install, no Apple/Google Wallet, no POS integration. Ten mechanic variants (per visit / per item / per spend / tiered S/M/L and combinations). One location free forever. Pricing is published; setup is self-serve in about 5 minutes.

Costless does not try to be a restaurant operating system. That focus is deliberate: the only things we need to do well are issue a stamp, count it, redeem it, and prevent fraud. Everything else stays in whatever POS the business already uses.

Architecture details live at /loyalty/methodology (90-second QR, 128-bit UUID token, 4-digit per-program PIN, 3-minute resume window, 10/min/user rate limit).

4When SmartCafe (Syrve) is the better choice

SmartCafe is not trying to replace anything — it plays a different role. Here is when you specifically need it:

  • You already run Syrve POS for table management, kitchen routing, inventory and delivery — loyalty switches on as another module on the same platform with no duplicate data.
  • You need SMS marketing and guest segmentation built into the loyalty stack — Costless does not do this natively.
  • You want customers to carry the card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet — this is a real SmartCafe advantage; Costless deliberately does not offer it (see section 7).
  • You operate a chain with multiple locations that need centralised inventory, kitchen routing, and CRM — SmartCafe runs on the enterprise tier of Syrve.
  • You require enterprise-grade guest segmentation — food preferences, order history, LTV forecast.
  • You are prepared to discuss pricing on a call (typical Syrve deployments are project-priced).
If those bullets fit you — SmartCafe will serve you better than Costless. Not a marketing concession — an honest reflection of where we don't have feature parity.

5When Costless Loyalty 5+1 is the better choice

  • Loyalty only — no POS commitment. Costless is POS-agnostic. Whatever you already run — SmartCafe POS, Poster, even a paper notebook — keeps working unchanged.
  • Published pricing. Free forever (1 location). Starter $12/mo R3 (3 locations). The number you see is the number you pay.
  • Self-serve setup in ~5 minutes. No calls, no implementation, no engineer's checklist.
  • A small café / salon / boutique with 1–3 locations where the Syrve platform is overkill.
  • You want to try free first. The Free tier is a permanent plan, not a 14-day trial.
  • 19 UI languages versus UA/RU at SmartCafe — relevant for tourist-heavy venues (Lviv, Odesa, central Kyiv).
  • Birthday + streak rewards baked in from Starter — no upsell, no enterprise rollout.
  • Security out of the box: 4-digit per-program PIN, 90-second QR, 3-minute resume window, 10/min rate limit.

7Why Costless does not support Apple Wallet

This is the most important section on this page, and we will say it plainly: SmartCafe's Smart Wallet is a genuine advantage we do not match. We will not hide or downplay it.

Here is why Costless made this trade-off — detailed in our methodology:

The "zero install" philosophy

A Costless card lives at a stable URL. The customer opens the link in their browser — done. A wallet pass is a lower barrier than installing a separate app (Wallet is already on the phone — that's true), but it is higher than just opening a URL. The "Add to Wallet" button requires:

  • One tap on "Add to Wallet"
  • An OS permission prompt
  • A push-notification permission
  • A separate gesture to find the card in Wallet next time

Costless optimises for no install at all — the customer scans the QR on a receipt, gets a URL, opens it on demand. No prompts, no provisioning, no risk of "Wallet didn't open".

The technical cost of wallet passes

A wallet pass is not just "save some JSON". Apple requires:

  • An Apple WWDR developer certificate ($99/year per account)
  • A separate pass certificate per program
  • Compliance with Apple Wallet rules (access can be revoked when rules change)
  • An APNs push server for card updates

Google Wallet adds the same overhead — separate API keys and a policy that shifts. For a single-location café this is a lot of infrastructure for a feature that does not move the bill.

Honest acknowledgement — when Smart Wallet wins

If your customers are heavy Apple/Google Wallet users (e.g., hotels or premium restaurants with a corporate clientele), SmartCafe's Smart Wallet is a real advantage Costless does not offer. This is not a gap in our product — it is a deliberate architectural stance. If that stance does not fit your customer base, SmartCafe is the better choice, and we will say so plainly.

8Can I run Costless alongside my SmartCafe POS?

Yes — Costless is POS-agnostic. The customer uses a browser card; no terminal integration required. The barista just opens the Costless panel in another tab and taps "Generate QR" — 1–3 clicks per check.

Common scenario: a restaurant already invested in Syrve POS (table management + kitchen + inventory + delivery), but the SmartCafe loyalty module turned out to be too expensive or too complex for a small café operating inside the restaurant. Costless drops in on top — Syrve runs operations, Costless runs loyalty.

This is not adversarial. We are not trying to replace Syrve POS. Costless is a loyalty layer that does not touch your accounting backend.

  • No free tier.
⚠️ Note on SmartCafe pricing: SmartCafe pricing could not be verified publicly (as of 2026-05-28 smartcafe.com.ua has no published price list). Any specific numbers circulating online are third-party guesses, not official figures. If you are evaluating SmartCafe, ask for a written quote.

10Frequently asked questions

Does Costless support Apple Wallet like SmartCafe?
No — this is a deliberate architectural choice. The Costless card lives in the customer's browser at a stable URL, with no app install or wallet pass. SmartCafe's Smart Wallet is a real advantage if your customers are heavy Apple/Google Wallet users. Detail: /loyalty/methodology.
Can I run Costless alongside Syrve POS?
Yes. Costless does not touch the POS — it is a separate loyalty layer in the browser. The barista opens the Costless panel in another tab and taps "Generate QR". Common pattern: Syrve for operations, Costless for loyalty.
How much does SmartCafe cost?
There is no public price list. smartcafe.com.ua has only a contact form and a phone number, +38 073 892 41 18. Any specific numbers in third-party articles are guesses, not official figures — ask for a written quote.
How much does Costless Loyalty 5+1 cost?
Free tier forever for 1 location. Starter from $12/mo (R3, UA/KZ region). Business from $29/mo. Network from $79/mo. Enterprise on request. Details: /loyalty/pricing.
Do I need Syrve POS to use SmartCafe?
Yes — SmartCafe's loyalty is embedded as a module of the Syrve platform. Without Syrve POS at the till, the loyalty module cannot run end-to-end. If you run a different POS, Costless works standalone.
Does Costless have SMS notifications for customers?
Not natively built in. SmartCafe wins this one — they ship a built-in SMS provider integration. Costless relies on magic-link email + browser push notifications for reminders.
Does Costless give birthday rewards?
Yes — a program-level setting available on every one of the 10 mechanic variants, starting at the Starter tier (see /loyalty/pricing). One reward per year, gated by birthday on file and a minimum activity threshold.
Does Costless give streak rewards?
Yes — from the Starter tier upward. Each qualifying QR scan advances the customer's streak; when the streak hits the configured threshold, an extra bonus. SmartCafe has not publicly documented this feature.
Is Costless a Ukrainian company like SmartCafe?
Costless serves Ukrainian customers and fully supports Ukrainian localisation. The platform also runs in 19 languages for international customers, from the EU to Latin America. SmartCafe focuses primarily on the Ukrainian market.
Can I migrate from SmartCafe to Costless without losing customers?
Yes, but manually: SmartCafe has no public customer-list export API, so transferring your email base requires an admin-side CSV export. Costless imports the list via CSV; customers receive a magic-link email pointing to their new card on the first scan.
Is Costless more fraud-resistant than SmartCafe?
Not a clean comparison. SmartCafe identifies the customer through the POS terminal (the barista scans the Syrve card or wallet pass — the till verifies automatically). Costless identifies through a single-use 90-second QR + 4-digit per-program PIN + 128-bit token. Both are secure; the approaches differ. Fraud is harder against Costless because the server controls issuance and the customer device cannot mint a stamp on its own.
What happens if SmartCafe leaves the market?
SmartCafe is a Ukrainian integrator of the global Syrve platform. If the local partner shuts down, your data stays in Syrve and you find a different integrator. It is a fair question for any vendor, including Costless. Costless publishes its methodology openly (/loyalty/methodology) and customer data can be deleted on request at any time.
